You have selected good points to show how power corrupts MB. I like how you define your concept and you begin to show what he was like prior. I would develop this area a bit more and then you can show more how the power has corrupted him.You also mention he is insane. How do you define insane? Was Mb really insane or just extremely power hungry and a leader who murdered many. be sure to explain all your terms. Overall well said.

EQ for Macbeth

How does power corrupt??

Power is something we all seek in one way or another. Whether it is power in a relationship or power over people we all seek power and depending on the person power can corrupt them. In the play Macbeth you see many good examples as to how power corrupts and the aftermath. One good example is Macbeth himself, in the story he has the power of knowing what is going to happen in the future. He meets the witches and they say "Hail to thee Thane of Cawdor" and tell him "[he] [shall] be King.." neither of which he was and even though they had told him he would be he did not believe them until he was told that he had been made the Thane of Cawdor. Knowing what else the witches had said he used the power of "knowing" and killed the King. The power of knowing corrupted him because before hand he never would have killed the King and this began his insanity and the corruption caused by this power. Another way power corrupts is the second time he goes to see the witches and they tell him "Laugh to scorn the pow'r of man, for none of women born born shall harm Macbeth". The power in this case is once again knowing, or at least the belief that he "knows", from "knowing" that none of women born shall harm him he goes crazy and kills all of Macduffs family, knowing that no one could hurt him. Without a consequence he is given full power and this is what corrupts Macbeth.

Presentation questions.....

1) We chose to present ours as a video because it is easier to do it this way. Through skits you do have the ability to perform publicly but also it requires much more practice, planning, and rehearsing then just making a video out of it. We used the simpsons instead of the original macbeth characters so that children of our generation could more easily relate to the characters.

2) Our influences for this presentation were mainly television as well as our teachers. Through grade 10 we were taught to appeal to our audience, our audience is teenagers most who watch tv and shows such as the simpsons so using this method was nearly the most logical thing we could do.

3) Yes it was. Through most of my presentations we have not used actual clips of characters but we filmed ourselves and made that into a video.

4) This presentation was easier then other presentations as it took less practices and retries seeing as you cannot screw up something that was not done by a person multiple times. Getting someone to act something exactly right is much harder then using animation.

5) More on my private blog because it is easier I prefer to keep my work to myself more so then show everyone else, also using the class blog to post things makes it harder for others to find the homework so I do it out of courtesy for everyone else.

Metacognition Blogging

In this class we have taken a most unorthodox path to our learning. Straying from the traditional paper and pencil path, we have chosen to use the internet and blogs in order to post our assignments. Although it is very convient to be able to look back on your homework in such an organized way this method does lack some qualities such as in depth class discussions. Although the information is always there for us to look back on, it is impossible to ask a computer for anymore information than what it knows, meaning that the only group discussions we can have are those that we already posted, no more no less. The unit we are currently doing is Macbeth, we are learning to decipher the meaning of the book and put it into a more modern form so that we may understand it better. Although the internet is handy for somethings it is not good for imaginative ideas thus the learning is somewhat strained as there is a lack of class human relation and the only thing we have to rely on is the cold hearless words written on the blogs themselves. The internet overall has had a negitive impact on my learning seeing as most of the information is used over and over again and it is hard to ask questions to a vacant screen. The class activites we have done have a much greater impact on my learning but in a positive way. By communicating with my classmates face to face we are able to continually produce new ideas and compare the old ones to the new ones. By talking in class we are given the chance to ask questions of one another with a almost immiediate answer, unlike through blogging which again has only a limited source of information. For instance in class we were told to answer an esstential question using one of the acts. My partner and I chose to use Act1 scene3 and answer the question "What is integrity". Although it was still blogging I had a classmate there to help me formulate ideas and build on them instead of just having to look at the examples of other students, which for the most part were either very hard to follow or had nothing to do with my piece. Another way I make sense of Macbeth or of the other stories was by thinking about them very carefully and reading between the lines. Although the short stories were very simple to follow Macbeth was not. The internet provided some videos but they were very hard to follow as it was extremely hard for me to go back and read again so that I could make sense of it. The book was much better and much easier to follow. Looking back on my previous projects my progress and growth as a learner has not been very high. Although the experience was somewhat fun it was very hard to follow and thus left me confused with many questions as I am not very good with computers. My goals for next term are to simply do better, build a better understanding of our next novel and learn to ask more questions so that I am not left confused with only a computer screen to help me. Although some of my work has been strong("what is integrity") many of my pieces on this blog have been very weak and uninteresting("what am I learning", what do I desire most...."). I unfortunately only see this helping me next term as a source of error, although we learn through our mistakes the amount of mistakes on this blog is fairly disgusting and I will use this to teach myself to become more attentive so that next term I may do better.

What I am learning

In our english class we are currently learning about Macbeth and how some of the questions you may relate to it relate to our present day situation. We have learnt alot not only through Ms.Caldwell's teaching but also through these blogs. I understand much of Macbeth because the whole class has been blogging about it making it easier to see not only my view on it but also the whole classes making it much easier for me to form my own opinions by looking at the examples of my classmates.

What I desire most and how far I am willing to go to get it

The thing I desire most is fame. By this I mean to be known, to be seen, to be heard by all and to have some sort of influence. I am not willing to go very far to get this as I wish to be remembered for doing something great and could not live with the guilt or hurting someone else to get what it is that I desire.

What is Integrity?

ACT1 SCENE3 ANGUS: Who was the thane lives yet, but under the heavy judgment bears that life which he deserves to lose. Whether he was combined with those of Norway, or did line the rebel with hidden help and vantage or that with both he labored in his country's wrack, I know not; but treason's capital, confessed and proved, have overthrown him.

I chose this passage because it shows how the thane of Cawdor had no integrity and committed treason against the crown which was punishable by death. It shows how even someone in a position of great respect and honour can do terrible things to get what they want, how someone who has everything can still want more. This part is relevant because not only does it show the beginning of the lose of integrity but is also begins the witch's prophecy making it a very big part in the play.

Superstitions and faith

There have always been superstitions and faiths. Whether it was the ancient Greeks or the Modern West religion and superstitions are still running strong. Personally I do not believe in superstitions, I believe in Karma and certain things such as curses but I do not believe in bad luck from breaking mirrors or walking under ladders. I do believe that there is a higher power but this higher power has no real hand in our fate and would much rather lets us choose our own path as a show of good faith...

MACBETH

Macbeth

MACBETH

In the clip of Macbeth I saw it was slightly hard to follow. With very little explanation as to what happens you would need a great knowledge of not only old English but a great knowledge of symbolism as well. The clip was of the very beginning of Macbeth I believe. The animation of the clip did give it something extra, bringing some of what was not physically possible to show to life.

HI,
You said ambition drives us to do things to better ourselves and our society. How true. Without it where would we be. In the story you read can you see another side of ambition as well? Something to think about.

First blog assignment

Today I went on google and learnt that ambition is what drives us to improve ourselves. Whether the ambition drives us to do something with little hope or achieving the goal or it drives to do something which we can obviously achieve ambition drives us all to do things to better ourselves as people or to improve society. =D

What made learning the full definition of the word ambition was how others describe it. =D
